Security agencies in Nakasongola District have intensified operations and deployed personnel to a disputed farm in Kalongo Sub-county following a violent attack that left property worth an estimated Shs185 million destroyed.
The decision was reached during an emergency security meeting that lasted more than six hours and brought together security officials, district leaders, and victims of the attack. The meeting was held behind closed doors at the Nakasongola District headquarters.
Speaking after the meeting, Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima said investigations are progressing and that notices have been issued for individuals believed to have participated in or masterminded the attack.
“We have identified people of interest in this case. Investigations are ongoing, and we are pursuing all those suspected to have participated in or masterminded the attack,” Twiineamazima said.
Police identified Kafeero Majambere as the principal suspect believed to be behind the attack, although he was reportedly not present at the scene during the incident.
Twiineamazima said police have launched a manhunt for Majambere and his alleged associates to establish why they allegedly took the law into their own hands despite the matter already being before court.
According to security officials, the dispute centres on land described as Block 181, Plot 4 and Plot 18 in Buruuli, measuring approximately two square miles.
Authorities said the contested land is reportedly under a court injunction as ownership disputes remain unresolved.
The Chairperson of the Nakasongola District Security Committee and Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Festus Bandeeba, said security agencies had resolved to deploy personnel at the farm to prevent further violence and restore calm.
“We cannot allow individuals to use violence to settle disputes. Security has been deployed at the farm to maintain law and order as investigations continue. Anyone with grievances should seek redress through the courts and not through criminal acts,” Bandeeba said.
The emergency meeting was attended by security commanders at various levels, district leaders, and victims of the attack, including farm owner Ronald Wasswa, who appealed to the government to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“I have suffered enormous losses. Property was destroyed, hard cash and cows were stolen, goats were killed, and all I want is justice. I appeal to the authorities to ensure that those behind this attack are arrested and prosecuted so that such incidents do not happen to other farmers,” Wasswa said.
Police said investigations are ongoing and urged members of the public with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to cooperate with security agencies.
